The trouble is, there's a lot of confusion about what a plain old VPN can and cannot do. Sure, it can obscure your IP address from some of the surveillance systems out there. It might redirect complaints about torrenting away from your ISP, so your internet access isn't shut down when Warner Brothers robots notice your downloading.
