Xenguard Agent software

The Xenguard Agent turns any digital device into a powerful "IoT" sensor (passive mode) or access point (active mode). The Agent is controlled by the Xenguard Server to deploy configurations across a network. The Agent supports a wide variety of hardware platforms and Operating Systems in fact, if you can provide us a sample unit, theres a good chance Xenguard can deliver our software on your platform of choice.

You can use Xenguards Agent to break out of application restrictions set by Apple or Google for example, to identify the mobile device running a particular app or to deliver an interactive application to the mobile device outside of the devices native ecosystem. In other words, the Xenguard Agent lets you achieve what conventional app infrastructures cannot.

In passive mode, the Xenguard Agent is a sensor only. It monitors a network or interface and delivers information to the Xenguard Server. The Agent never transmits a datagram to an end-user its presence is entirely passive and therefore undetectable. By default, no personally identifiable information is collected by the Xenguard system. Users must opt-in their devices in order to collect any personally identifiable information such as Facebook ID, photographs, e-mail address etc. Once users have opted-in a device, youre able to use the people layer to track individual persons and organizations. Until a device has been opted-in by a user, it will appear as a device rather than a person. For example, a user might register a fleet of vehicles in the system or a specific group of mobile phones to employees. The user is then able to track the movements and behaviors of the registered individuals. End-users may also opt in via mobile portals for example via in-store marketing campaigns or web sites.

In active mode, the Xenguard Agent becomes an interactive application delivery platform. Users may connect to the Agent with a mobile device and interact with applications without having to install any native apps. Functionality is the same regardless of the particular platform a user has chosen (Apple versus Android). This method of delivery is often called a Progressive Web Application and is considered by some the future of mobile application development.

For example, a cafe might install a Xenguard device. Users visiting the cafe have the option to connect to the cafe via wifi, to gather information about the establishment, place orders or make payments. It is not necessary to install any native application on the users device the application lives entirely in the cloud, not installed on the users device.

Because the Xenguard Agent is not dependant on Apple, Google, Facebook or any other big app vendor, we dont have to worry about a big vendor blocking us from functionality we need. Developers get much more powerful capabilities using the Xenguard Agent to directly connect with users rather than with expensive proprietary application platforms like Apple or Google. Unlike solutions offered by big app vendors, with Xenguard software you are never at risk of a big vendor pulling the plug on your application or its data. Plus, it works on any device even the most unusual client devices! With Xenguard, you dont need to cater to only those customers who use a particular vendors device.

Xenguard Agent supports every client device when most vendors arent even aware of how many of each type of digital device is actually still running around out there. Lets say youre an airport. Do you really think youre serving a global market by offering an app that only works on iPhones? Not even close.

Users are increasingly concerned about the invasive nature of native apps those installed via big vendor app stores. Theres an awareness that when a user is forced to log in with Facebook in order to use an application, that their personal data is being shared with third-party companies. More and more users are deciding to click DECLINE no, I do not wish to share my entire digital life with your company just to run an app. The Xenguard Agent offers a more secure, privacy-assuring way to for businesses to connect directly with customers on their digital devices.

Xenguard® Agent installation

If you want to run Xenguard® on your own hardware, the Xenguard Agent software is easy to install. Complete stand-alone Xenguard OS firmware images are available for Atheros (low-cost routers) and Intel X86 platforms. The image includes the entire Xenguard stack, and requires no additional software. Xenguard OS images are the recommended way to install Xenguard software. Xenguard OS images are also available in the Open Virtualization Format (OVF), suitable for installation in cloud platforms such as VirtualBox (http://www.virtualbox.org), VMWare (http://www.vmware.com), or KVM. Because the entire stack is optimized for Xenguard software, this platform offers the best possible performance and security. Our virtual images may also be readily imported into commercial cloud services such as OpenStack or Amazon AWS. For user convenience, we also provide Xenguard firmware on DVD (ISO images) and USB keys. Binary images are available for most UNIX platforms including Linux, BSD, Solaris etc. Simply install the lightweight Agent binary on your existing platform. We dont generally provide Agent binaries for Android, Windows or Apple devices at this time, mainly due to the performance limitations of these platforms; but if necessary we can deliver custom builds for high-volume customers (for publication of custom apps and so on).
